My Sister's House

The seasons and red-letter days
Are calling to me here
They sing to me from brightly beaming walls
They light on cheery tabletops
And up and down the stairs
Around each corner and throughout the halls

The smell of something wonderful
Is filling up the air
The homemade soups are begging me to dine
Your sister may be cooking too
But I must here declare
With certainty,“not as good as mine”

The needlework’s in progress here
For relatives and friends
Reflecting tastes and pleasures known so well
This central family meeting place
Abounds with joy and mirth
For grandchildren who’s mom-mom weaves her spell

The workshop holds the latest gift
Of homemade skill and love
The telescope stands poised to meet the sky
The jukebox plays a song from youth
And everywhere I look
Apples, apples, apples meet my eye

The birds swoop down, and rabbits come
As nature joins us here
To celebrate the magic with us all
There may be times of chaos here
As phones ring, yet I sense
This magic reaches even those who call

I wouldn’t be surprised, you see
For even as I walk
Toward the door my heart begins to race
Maybe it’s just the mistress here
Who makes these rooms unique
My sister’s house is a very special place
The Child In Me

The child in me
The child in me
I need to awaken the child in me
I need that little girl’s company
Someone awaken the child in me

The child in me
The child in me
Oh, how I long for the child in me
Teach me to see what she used to see
Teach me to be what she used to be

I want planets, stars, chocolate bars
To taste the world like it’s new
With magical thoughts that flow like springs do
Don’t you wish that you could cling to

The child in you
The child in you
Dreaming what your inner child can do
Touching the treetops and heaven too
Learning to live with the child in you
Celebrate life with the child in you
