| Missing You I can’t believe 10 years have passed since you have gone away It seems to me I saw you smile at me just yesterday Your presence in my life was so important mom, and yet I did not tell you often, which is something I regret Please forgive a daughter who clings to each memory And cherishes each moment you gave selflessly to me Now, rather than lament the things I failed to say or do I wish to celebrate the very priceless life of you The sense of mirth and humor you kept right up to the end The loyalty you showed each family member and each friend The way you made each meal a feast fit for a queen or king The heart and soul you lovingly put into everything The sacrifices that you made so we would have so much The pains in life that went away with every soothing touch The funny songs you sang; the jokes and stories that you told It never once occurred to me that you were growing old In fact, you did not live to see your new great-grandchildren And yet, I see so much of you inside each one of them They know who you are, even though they’ve never met you We share photographs and stories so they won’t forget you For you defined the term we humans know as ‘motherhood’ Loving, giving, sharing, caring, nurturing and good All of those whose lives you’ve touched; all whose heart you fill Offer up this prayer to let you know you’re cherished still!. |
