| Classic Cats (For Cheryl) They left their mark upon our hearts and made their presence known Two feline family members made our little house a home Pinky was an ebony who chattered night and day I never knew a cat who got more pleasure out of play Fetching all his favorite toys, ribbons, bottle caps And oh, his sweet, contented purr as he slept on our laps Jesse James, the chestnut, spotted tabby would beguile He won his cat show ribbons making judges love his style Sweet and funny, both of them; they gave us so much pride And when they faced their illnesses, how stoically they died Pinky I had right from birth, I have his mother still He recovered nicely other times when he fell ill But this time it was not to be, eleven years we had To share his special world where he had made his humans glad Poor Jesse was eleven too, he’d lost his teeth, poor friend I fed him with a syringe and tried to make him strong again But he had found it hard to breathe and now they both are gone The memories of them fill us with joy, for they live on And if there is a place in Heaven where fine felines go I am sure that, like us, angels love their antics so! |
