It is fitting she stands in the heart of the city For its heart, in her, you will find Her doors open up with magical ease The doorway that leads to the mind She will take you through space to world’s never seen Before in Earth’s history Or to her own small, menagerie world With her fish in their miniature sea You can touch and examine exhibits designed To entertain while they teach At live demonstrations learn how the world works And grow as high as you reach Come visit her Imax and see a great movie That brings nature’s wonders to you Each time you return you will marvel at all The things here to see and to do
In Defense of Science With righteous piety the right-wing claims to dictate what is man And then proceeds to incant ate the law books in their hand They feel they have the right to judge the human consciousness Accusing hearts they have not read of evil purposes They say that science is afraid to learn our origins But scientists are the ones who ask with fervent, open minds The universe holds many secrets mankind may still aspire But nothing is more sacred then the freedom to inquire Scientists fear not the facts wherever they may lie They welcome them, along with the right to ask the how and why Their love of life of every kind will not be judged by men Who, if they had their way, would bring dark ages back again
Sometimes you can go to the top of her roof And peer through her telescope lens Or watch the night sky in her grand planetarium The beauty of her never ends! She wears the world well on her walls and her floors With original art on display I may buy souvenirs to remind me of her But the memories I made today Like all she has taught me will serve to insure That I’ll come and see her again If I help support her as one of her “family” I know she will prosper, and then Each new generation will sample her magic As each generation before The Maryland Academy of Science is The true pride of Baltimore!
