| God Gave George A Lot To Say (written for George Burns in 1980) He grins a sly, mischievous grin and lights up his cigar It he could not have “made it”, who on earth would be a star? He’s been around awhile and so he’s got a lot to tell; And it’s for certain no one else could tell it quite so well For deep inside the soul that has a memory of gold There beats a heart that can’t be more than twenty-one years old He’s a bit of poet, humorist, philosopher and clown And home in movies, radio, TV or ‘on the town’ The vaudeville era never dies as long as he lives on No one from nine to ninety will forget him when he’s gone He may outlive us all, but maybe it should be that way Because (and I am glad that) God gave George a lot to say! |
| The Joys of Jennifer (My niece is now 30 and has two children. This was written when she was two years old) The effervescent music of her laughter Comes dancing from the rainbow of her smile And when her eyes light up my heart then tells me I have to stay with her a little while And grab some of her sunshine for my keeping To warm the very insides of my heart If all of her vivacious charms were stars To count them in the heavens, dare I start? They move me to the point that I must tell her “I love you, child” and then she says to me “I love you too” her arms around me tightly And all that love holds dear is plain to see That if the world could only borrow some of The love she holds for everyone near her This world would truly be a paradise Full of all the joys of Jennifer. |
